A jelly sits between a gel and a cream in thickness, and that is what makes it a sensible base for a wash-and-go. You get the hold of a gel and the slip of a cream in one step, which is one fewer product to layer.

As I Am's version is built for definition that lasts. It clumps curls from root to tip, keeps its shape as the hair dries, and does not flake or leave a crunchy shell you have to scrunch out afterwards. Frizz control holds up through the day and the finish carries a natural shine rather than a coated gloss. It is moisturising enough to use as the only styler on hair that is not especially dry.

The 16 oz tub is the size you want if wash-and-gos are your default rather than an occasional thing.

Apply to soaking wet hair in sections, smooth through, then scrunch and leave it alone while it dries.

Application tips

Soaking wet hair. Not towel dried, not damp. A jelly needs water in the hair to spread evenly, and without it the product grabs and goes patchy.

Rake it through a section, then scrunch upward or shingle strand by strand for tighter clumps. Diffuse on low or leave it to air dry, then break the cast with your hands once there is no damp left anywhere.

Results

Definition arrives with hold rather than stiffness, and the clumps keep their shape instead of separating into frizz by lunchtime.

Humidity is handled well, so a wash and go survives an ordinary British day out. Shine comes up on the surface, hair stays soft once the cast is scrunched out, and nothing flakes. The 16 oz tub is the sensible size if this is your weekly styler.

The full INCI is printed on the pack. We publish it here as soon as the brand supplies it, and we will read it off the bottle for you if you ask.
