Coconut oil is the base. It is one of the few oils small enough to go into the hair shaft rather than sit on top of it, which is why the hair feels conditioned from the inside rather than coated afterwards. The formula lifts sweat, dust and light styling product off the scalp and leaves the natural oils alone.
The 8 oz size is where to start. Use it in place of shampoo on most wash days and keep a clarifying shampoo for every fourth or fifth one.

Application tips
Soaking, not damp, and that distinction decides whether this works at all. A co-wash needs water to spread and to lift anything.
Apply in sections, scalp first with the pads of your fingers, then draw the rest down. Give it two minutes. Rinse well. Use it in place of shampoo for a few washes, and clarify once a month if your roots start feeling coated.
