Ceramic plates heat evenly, and even heat is the thing that stops one pass turning into four. That is the case for the Aliza Ceramic straightener over cheaper irons that run hot in the middle and cool at the edges.

It reaches temperature quickly and holds it while you work, so the last section gets the same treatment as the first. The plates glide instead of catching, which matters on textured hair where snagging is what causes breakage. Hair comes out smooth with the cuticle laid flat, and flat cuticle is what shine actually is.

Ceramic is the more forgiving of the two plate materials as well. It heats more gently than titanium does, which suits fine or already dry hair and makes it harder to do damage in a hurry.

Use it on dry hair, in sections, with a heat protectant underneath. One slow pass beats three quick ones every time.

Built for salon work and sensible for home use, on all hair types.

Application tips

Dry hair only. A wet strand hisses, and that sound is water boiling inside the shaft.

Comb the section first, take pieces no wider than the plates, and draw the iron down in one steady pass rather than three quick ones. Start mid-length on the top layers to keep root volume. Let each piece cool before you brush or tie it, or it will kink where you touched it.

Results

One pass leaves the length flat and glossy, because ceramic heats evenly and does not scorch a hot spot into the section. Frizz and lifted ends lie down and the hair swings instead of sitting there. On coarser texture the finish survives a damp walk home better than a blow dry alone would manage, and the shine is the sort you notice in daylight rather than under a bathroom bulb.
