Honey, coconut oil and cacao is an odd-sounding list until you use it. Honey holds water in the hair, coconut oil gets into the strand, and the cacao is what gives African Pride's Moisture Miracle range its faint chocolate scent and much of its softening effect.

It is a rinse-out conditioner for dry coils and curls, in a 354ml bottle, and it suits hair that drinks moisture faster than one step can supply. Applied generously to wet hair after shampoo and worked from roots to ends, it gives enough slip to detangle properly, then wants ten to fifteen minutes before you rinse. That waiting time is doing real work, so it is worth not rushing.

Follow with a Moisture Miracle leave-in to hold the result until the next wash.

Application tips

Section it. Four clips and four handfuls beats one big scoop rubbed over the top, and it is the difference between conditioned hair and a conditioned outer layer.

Cover with a cap while it sits, so body heat does the work.

Rinse in the coolest water you can stand, which flattens the surface down and is where a lot of the shine comes from.

Results

Dry coils take the moisture and hold it. Hair feels plump instead of thirsty, and the strands separate cleanly rather than knotting into each other.

The slip is the thing you notice. Fingers get through a section without a comb, and knots that usually cost twenty minutes come apart on the first pass. Curls dry softer, better defined and less inclined to frizz by the afternoon.

Composition

Honey
A humectant, so it pulls moisture toward the strand rather than sealing it out
Coconut Oil
One of the few oils small enough to travel inside the strand
Cacao
Softens the feel of coarse, dry coils and adds a warm scent
