Work it into small sections of clean, wet hair in a downward motion, follow immediately with a brush or comb to define each section, then scrunch and let it air dry or sit under a hooded dryer. Best on type 3B through 4C.

Application tips
Soaking wet hair, not damp. Max hold gels grab, and a section that has started to dry will set with the frizz already in it.
Rake it through, then smooth with a flat palm and leave it alone. No touching until it is bone dry. Break the cast by scrunching with a drop of oil on the hands, which keeps the definition and takes the crunch off.
Results
Coils and curls hold their shape for days, through sleep and through damp weather, which is what a max hold formula is for. Nothing flakes and nothing goes white at the roots. Hair stays hydrated under the hold rather than drying out inside a shell, and the finish is glossy rather than dull. Definition holds to the ends instead of giving up halfway down.
