Wahl's clipper oil is a light lubricant made for the tight tolerance between a clipper's two blades. It is thin enough to sit in that gap without gumming, which is where household oils go wrong: too thick, and they collect hair clippings and turn into paste.

Application tips
Get the clippings off the teeth first. Oiling over a bed of hair only makes paste.
Hold the machine blade downwards so nothing runs back into the housing, lay a few drops across the teeth with it switched on, give it a few seconds to spread and take the surplus off with a cloth. Skip that last part and the first client of the day wears it on their neck.
Results
The machine sounds different straight away, quieter and cooler in the hand. A clipper that had started to drag hair goes back to cutting it.
