Colouring lifts it, a lifted cuticle leaks pigment, and a conditioner that seals it back down slows the whole process. It also holds off the dullness that builds up over repeated colouring, which is often what makes a shade look old before it has actually faded much.

Application tips
Squeeze the water out of your hair before you apply any. Diluted conditioner slides off, and you end up using twice as much.
Rake it through from the ears down, leave it while you finish washing, then rinse under water that is cooler than you would normally pick. Two or three minutes is enough. Skip the roots unless your scalp is genuinely dry.
Results
Hair comes out of the shower slippery rather than squeaky, and a comb passes through wet lengths without catching at the ends.
Coloured hair keeps its depth for longer between top-ups, and the flat, chalky look that sets in a few weeks after a box dye is slower to arrive. The cream is thick, so coarse hair takes it well without needing a mask on top.
