Half a litre of sheen spray is a lot, and Mamado price it accordingly.

This is the everyday bottle, the one that sits on the shelf and gets used on finished styles a few times a week rather than being saved for anything. Olive oil and batana oil are the two named ingredients. Olive oil is the traditional shine-and-seal choice in textured hair care, and batana is the one that has come up more recently for softening rough, dry-feeling hair.

In a spray both go on light, which is the difference between a sheen spray and an oil. You are misting a film over the top of a style rather than working an oil into it, and the finish comes out glossy without being greasy.

It works across hair types, from loose waves to tightly coiled hair worn in a protective style, and it is as useful on braids and locs as on a blow-dry.

Net weight is 325g in a 500ml bottle. Mist it from a distance over a finished style, and go easy on fine hair.

Application tips

Hold the bottle about an arm's length away and keep it moving. Standing close and holding the nozzle down for two seconds is how a sheen spray turns into a wet patch.

One pass over the top, one over the back, and a light burst underneath if the ends need it. Do it as the last thing before you leave the house, not before you brush or wrap.

Results

A glossy finish that reads as healthy hair rather than product. Braids and locs pick up light along their length, and a blow dry looks freshly done for another day.

Because it lands as a mist rather than a coating, the hair stays soft and moveable underneath. Batana takes the rough edge off dry feeling hair while the olive oil does the shine, and neither adds the weight an oil would.
