Unrefined means the colour, the smell and the fatty acid content all stay in. It is aimed at hair that is dry, brittle or damaged, and it does three things on that kind of hair. It moisturises the scalp and lengths, it seals moisture into the dry ends where it escapes fastest, and it works well as a hot oil treatment when you want something more intensive than a leave-in.
Warm a small amount between the palms, work it through the scalp and lengths, and either leave it or cover the hair for twenty minutes before washing. Choose this over the blend if you want batana on its own, or if black castor has been too heavy for your hair in the past. 118 ml/4.0 oz.

Application tips
Unrefined oil sets firm in a cold bathroom, so stand the bottle in warm water for a minute before you start. It goes on damp hair better than dry, which spreads it further.
For a hot oil session, apply generously, cover with a cap for twenty minutes, then shampoo twice to get it out again. For daily sealing, a few drops on the ends only.
Results
Brittle hair softens noticeably after a couple of treatments, and the ends stop feeling like straw between your fingers. It has a nutty, slightly smoky smell that fades as it dries, which is what unrefined means in practice.
It sits lighter on the hair than a castor blend, so it suits anyone who found the mixed version too heavy. Shine builds over weeks rather than appearing on day one.
