It coats the strand and holds moisture against it, so hair survives the mechanical stress of shampooing and detangling instead of snapping through it. This masque puts that on first, before shampoo, and lifts the cuticle so the botanical extracts and conditioning agents in the formula can get inside rather than rinse straight off.

Application tips
Give yourself some time before wash day rather than fitting this in at the sink. Take the hair in four to six sections and coat each one from mid-length to ends, working it in until the section feels slippery all through rather than patchy.
A plastic cap over the top keeps it from drying out while it sits. Shampoo straight over the masque afterwards. Save the detangling for the conditioner that follows, and keep this one off the scalp.
Results
Hair that normally tangles into a solid mass the moment water hits it behaves quite differently. Sections stay separate, the shampoo spreads instead of dragging, and the plughole is noticeably clearer at the end.
Afterwards the hair feels padded rather than squeaky, with more give in it when you stretch a curl. Porosity evens out over a run of washes, so the ends stop drinking product and going dry an hour later.
