Three steps in the order the name gives you: cleanse, prep, condition. The middle step is the one most routines skip and the one that makes the conditioner work.

The Cleansing Shampoo takes off product buildup, environmental grime and excess oil without stripping the hair's own moisture out with it, which is the usual trade with anything that cleans properly. That leaves the hair and the scalp ready to take in what follows rather than repelling it.

From there the prep and conditioning steps do the softening and the strength work, and the difference shows up in manageability more than in shine. Hair that has been prepared before conditioning holds the conditioner longer.

It is formulated for natural curls, coils and waves as well as relaxed hair, and it is gentle enough for a sensitive scalp. Worth trying if your hair feels dry and unmanageable no matter what conditioner you buy.

Application tips

Order matters more than anything else with this one. Cleanse first, rinse fully, then apply the prep step to hair that is still wet and let it sit for a minute before the conditioner goes on.

Work in four sections throughout so nothing gets missed at the back. Detangle on the conditioning step, never on the shampoo. Rinse cool at the end and style as usual.

Results

The difference shows up in manageability rather than in shine. Hair that normally resists whatever you put on it takes the conditioner properly and holds it for longer.

Build-up and grime come off without the hair going tight and squeaky afterwards. Curls, coils, waves and relaxed hair all come out softer, easier to part, and quicker to detangle than after a single-step wash.
