Rosemary is the note that carries this one. It is herbal and slightly sharp, and it cuts through the sweetness that most conditioners for textured hair default to, which is reason enough to try it if the usual coconut and shea scents have worn thin.

The 8 oz formula is rich and creamy, and the slip is the standout. Fingers and a wide-tooth comb move through wet hair without catching, so the detangling stage stops costing you strands. Hair dries softer, with the curl pattern reading more clearly.

On the scalp it leaves a clean, comfortable feel rather than a coated one, which is what you want from a conditioner that gets massaged in as well as combed through.

Best on natural, curly and coily hair that is dry and prone to tangling. Use after shampoo, leave a few minutes, then rinse well.

Application tips

Get the bulk of the water out of your hair first, then apply from the ears down and work upward only if the roots feel dry.

Massage a little into the scalp as well, since the formula is built to take it. Comb through, leave it while you finish washing, then rinse. A cool final rinse is worth the discomfort.

Results

Sections separate cleanly under the fingers while it is still in, and stay separated once rinsed.

Hair dries with a soft finish rather than a slick one. The rosemary note lingers into the next day, which is unusual for a rinse out. Curls sit closer to their real pattern, with less puff at the crown.
