Henna colours differently to a chemical dye. It coats and stains the hair shaft rather than lifting it, so it will darken and enrich what you already have but it will not take you lighter.

Grey coverage is good, though greys take henna differently to pigmented hair, so a strand test is worth the ten minutes.
