Pure glycerine is one of the cheapest useful things you can keep in a bathroom, and Safah's Natural sells it undiluted: 250 ml of pharmaceutical-grade vegetable glycerine, sourced from plant oils, with nothing else in the bottle.
Glycerine is a humectant. It pulls water from the air and from deeper in the skin and holds it at the surface, which is why it turns up in so many moisturisers. On its own it is thick and sticky, so most people dilute it, either with water in a spray bottle for hair or mixed into a lotion for skin. Used that way it is a genuinely versatile base.

Application tips
Dilution is the whole skill. Too much glycerine in a mix and hair turns tacky in dry weather, too little and there is no benefit.
Start at roughly one part glycerine to four parts water, shake it before every use because it separates, and mist onto damp hair rather than dry. In a humid British summer it works beautifully. In a dry, heated room in January, cut it further or leave it out.
Results
Water held where you want it. On hair, a glycerine mist keeps curls hydrated for longer between washes and brings a set back to life on day three.
On skin it takes the tightness out of dry patches within minutes. Neat, it is syrupy and slow, which is the reason nobody uses it neat. Two hundred and fifty millilitres will outlast most of the products it replaces.
