A multi-purpose cocoa butter cream, sold for hair and for skin, and there is no trick to it. Cocoa butter and a blend of emollients, 460g of it, used wherever things feel dry.

On hair it is a sealing step rather than a styling one. Smooth a little over the ends after your leave-in and it holds moisture in overnight, flattens the frizz sitting on the surface and adds a soft shine. On skin it behaves like any rich butter cream, best on legs, elbows and anywhere that goes ashy.

Warm it between your palms before it goes anywhere near your hair. Cocoa butter is firm at room temperature, and applying it cold gives you patches instead of a film. Start with less than you think, particularly if your hair is fine, because the difference between sealed and greasy is about half a teaspoon.

Application tips

One jar covering hair and skin means deciding which job it is doing before you scoop. Warm it in the palms first either way, because cocoa butter is stiff out of the tub.

On skin, work it into damp arms and legs after a shower until it stops looking white. On hair, take far less: a fingertip through the ends, or a little more smoothed over a style to flatten frizz.

Results

On skin the cream is rich and slow to sink in, which is what dry legs and elbows want in winter. Softness lasts through the day.

On hair the same richness flattens frizz and puts a glossy finish on dry ends, though it is heavy enough that fine textures should keep it to the last inch. Cocoa butter carries a warm, chocolatey scent that sits on the skin for hours.
