Batana oil comes from the fruit of the American palm and is also sold as ojon oil. It has been used for generations by the Miskito people of Honduras, which is the whole reason it turns up in Western hair care at all. Pipps Hill have built a 500ml deep conditioning mask around it.

It is a thick mask and worth treating as a proper sit-down step rather than something you rinse away in thirty seconds. Work it through washed hair, leave it while you finish in the shower, then rinse. All hair types are covered, though the difference is clearest on hair that has been colour treated or heat styled hard.

Application tips
Shampoo first and get the water out of the hair, then apply in four sections from the ends up, using more where the hair is oldest and less near the roots.
Twist each section, pin it, and cover the lot with a cap. Warmth helps a thick mask move, so keep it on while you are still under the shower or wrap a hot towel over it. Rinse out properly and skip the conditioner unless the ends still feel rough.
Results
Hair that had gone dry and snappy comes back with some give in it, stretching under tension rather than parting.
The surface smooths, so the ends stop snagging as they pass each other and the frizz that follows from that settles. Flat, matte lengths pick up depth. On colour-treated or heat-styled hair the change is obvious after one use and holds for several days.
