The 8oz sprayable lotion is the first half of Mielle's air-dry pairing, and it does the softening and detangling work before anything sets.
It goes onto freshly shampooed hair and seals moisture in as the hair dries. Type 4 textures are what it was formulated around, and the result is soft, defined curls that still move rather than sitting rigid. Definition is light by design. This product softens and prepares the hair, and holding the style is the gel's job.
Mist it through, concentrating on the ends, then detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb before you style. If you want a firmer finish, follow it with the Pomegranate & Honey Air Dry Styler Gel, which is the other half of the pair. Drying is quick, which is rather the point of an air-dry range.

Application tips
This is the first layer, going onto hair still wet from the shower. Spray a section, then run fingers or a comb through so knots come loose while there is slip to work with.
Ends want more than roots. For a firmer set, follow with the matching gel while this layer is still damp, not once it has dried.
Results
Knots let go while the hair is wet, which is where most of the damage on tight textures happens. Curls dry soft and touchable with light definition, so the hair looks like hair rather than a set.
Moisture stays in the strand as it dries. On its own the hold is gentle, which suits anyone who dislikes the feel of a gel.
