Metallic shades behave differently from standard colour. Instead of a flat tone, the pigment is built to catch light and shift slightly with how it falls, and that is what separates a metallic result from a block of colour sitting on the hair.

This is a permanent dye in a 100ml tube, which is a professional size and works out sensibly per application whether you colour often at home or you stand behind a chair. The colour lock in the formula is there to stop the shade washing down quickly, which is the usual weakness of anything metallic.

  • Permanent metallic shades with a light-catching finish
  • Colour lock formula built to resist fading
  • 100ml tube, a professional rather than a boxed kit size
  • Mixed with a developer, which is bought separately

Mixed with a developer in the normal way, so you will need one alongside it. 100ml (3.38 oz).

Application tips

Squeeze the tube into a non metallic bowl and mix with a developer at the ratio on the shade instructions. Silver, violet and rose gold need a pale base underneath if they are to read as metallic rather than as a tint, so lighten first where the hair is dark.

Work it through the mid lengths, then the roots. Gloves on, hairline protected, and rinse until the water is clear before any conditioner goes near it.

Results

The finish is the point. Standard permanent colour gives a flat block of tone, whereas these shades carry a reflective pigment, so the same head reads differently in daylight, under a lamp and in a photograph.

Coverage is permanent, growing out at the root rather than washing off. Fade resistance is built in too, which matters more here than in any other shade family, since metallics are the first to wash pale.
