Most hair dye leaves hair worse than it found it. Direct dyes are the exception, and that is the quiet reason Manic Panic has kept its following since 1977.

Cleo Rose is a vivid hot pink, deeper and cooler than the tropical pinks in the range. It deposits pigment straight onto the hair with no ammonia, no peroxide and no PPD, so nothing is being opened up or lifted, and the conditioning agents in the base leave the hair softer and glossier afterwards than it was before. That matters most if you are colouring hair already bleached to take the shade, because bleached hair does not need any more chemistry.

It is semi-permanent, so it fades gently over a few weeks and can be reapplied whenever the colour drops. The 118ml pot suits a full head on shorter hair, streaks, or a dip dye through blonde ends.

Application tips

Dry hair takes it stronger, damp hair takes it softer. Both work, so pick based on whether you want maximum intensity or something a little more diffused.

Damp means towel-dried, not wet. Any water still in the hair dilutes the cream. Coat, wrap, wait thirty to forty minutes, then rinse cold with no shampoo.

Results

A deep, blue-leaning pink that sits closer to fuchsia than to candy floss on a properly pale base.

The formula conditions while it deposits, so there is none of the straw-like feel that follows a permanent colour. It holds better than the softer pinks and fades through a rosy tone rather than losing its way into orange.
