Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Hair Color Cream After Midnight | Vibrant & Vegan Deep Blue 118ml
Dark shades behave differently from bright ones. After Midnight is a deep blue rather than a vivid one, which means it will show up on hair that has not been lifted to pale blonde, and it will give a black-blue depth on dark hair where a brighter blue would simply vanish.
That makes it one of the more forgiving colours in the range if you are not willing to bleach. Applied over pre-lightened hair it goes intensely blue. Applied over dark brown it reads as a blue-black shift you notice in sunlight, and because nothing has been lifted to get there, no hard line appears where the colour stops.
Either way it is a semi-permanent direct dye, so there is no developer, no ammonia, no peroxide and no PPD, and it conditions the hair rather than roughing it up.
Manic Panic has been doing this since 1977 and the formula still leans towards being kind to the hair. Expect the colour to fade gradually over weeks rather than growing out at a hard line. The 118ml pot covers streaks, a full head on shorter hair, or a top-up of an existing blue.

Application tips
Dark shades are forgiving about the base underneath, which is why this one works on hair that has only been lifted to a mid brown.
Do a strand test first anyway. Take a few hairs from a brush, coat them, wait, rinse, and look at them dry in daylight. On the head, work from the back forward, and give the ends less time than the roots if they are porous.
Results
Deep navy in most light, with the blue showing properly only when the sun catches it. On darker hair it reads as a shift rather than a change.
Hair feels conditioned afterwards, not dried out, because there is no developer involved. The fade is gradual and stays blue rather than turning green, which makes it easier to live with than the brighter shades.
