A stocking cap is the thinnest thing you can put between your hair and a wig, and for a lot of people that is exactly the point. Nothing bulky, nothing that adds a visible layer under the hairline, just a smooth nylon skin holding everything down flat.

It expands, so one cap covers short hair, long hair, thick hair and fine hair without a size decision. The nylon is breathable enough for a long day and thin enough that it does not lift the wig away from the scalp, which is what makes a wig look like a wig.

This one is brown, so it sits closer to a mid or deep scalp tone if any of it shows at a parting. Underneath, it takes the friction of the wig so your own hair does not.

Application tips

Gather your hair low at the nape rather than piling it on top, then stretch the cap over from the forehead and roll the excess down at the back. Tuck the surplus under itself instead of cutting it, unless you are certain about the length.

Sit the front edge behind the hairline. Anything peeking out at the front is more obvious than the wig itself, particularly in bright light.

Results

Almost nothing sits between your hair and the wig. The nylon lies like a thin skin over the head, so a unit rests close to the scalp and a parting does not look raised.

It stretches to whatever is underneath, from a cropped cut to a full set of cornrows, and the brown tone means any glimpse at a parting reads closer to skin than a black cap would.
