A dome cap is pre-shaped to the curve of a head, so the wig you build on it already has the right shape before a single weft goes on. Flat caps have to be coaxed into that curve, and any tension you introduce doing it shows up in the finished wig as a bump or a pull.
This one is mesh, which is the trade-off most wig makers want. Air moves through it, so a wig worn for a full day does not turn into a heat trap, and the open weave gives a needle somewhere obvious to go when you are sewing wefts down.

Application tips
Block it first. Pin the cap to a canvas head at the front, the nape and both temples, then check the dome is sitting symmetrically before you thread a needle.
Sew through the openings in the weave rather than piercing the strands, which stops the mesh distorting as you work. Rows from the bottom up, each one overlapping the last by a few millimetres.
Results
A pre-shaped dome means the wig arrives at the right curve without you forcing it there, and forcing is what leaves a ridge or a pull in the finished unit.
The open weave keeps air moving, so a long day in a completed wig stays bearable. It also survives being unpicked and reused, which matters while you are still learning and the first attempt is rarely the last.
