Work it through the lengths after shampoo, leave it briefly, then rinse.
Keep it below the ears. The roots on long hair are rarely the problem, and putting a plumping treatment there only makes the contrast between top and bottom more obvious.

Application tips
The appeal of a concentrate is that it fits into a normal shower. Sixty to ninety seconds of contact is enough, so there is no standing about waiting for a treatment to finish.
Squeeze the hair out first so the product is not diluted, then apply in two handfuls, one for each side of the head. On very long hair, clip the top section up and do the underneath separately, because that is the part that never gets covered.
Results
Worn ends plump back out and the tapering that makes long hair look straggly is less obvious once it is gathered up.
