The number tells you what is in it. The 4 is the depth, a mid brown, and the digits after the point are the reflects laid over that depth, which is why the shade reads as several tones rather than one.

Translucent dyes matter more than they sound. They let some of your own tone show through instead of masking it completely, which is why a shade like this reads as hair rather than as dye when the light moves across it. The UV filter in the conditioner is there for the same reason, since sun turns brown dull faster than washing does.

Application tips
Hair goes in dry and a day past washing. Start with the allergy alert test set out in the leaflet.
Mix the colourant, developer and conditioner sachet as directed, then apply from the roots outwards in four sections, keeping the ends for the final stretch. Comb through, wait out the time, and rinse until the water runs clear. The conditioner is worth leaving a couple of minutes.
Results
There is more than one tone running through this brown, so it moves in daylight instead of sitting as a solid block.
The shade is deep without being heavy, and the finish is bright rather than dull. Hair feels smooth once the conditioner has been through, and the colour stays sharp for weeks of washing afterwards.
