3.0 is the straight dark brown. No red, no gold, no ash pulling it one way or the other, and that neutrality is the point of the shade. It sits a couple of levels above black, so it covers grey and darkens a base without the hard line black can leave against the skin.
Préférence builds it as a permanent colour with the fade defying system behind it, rated at up to eight weeks of wear, plus the shine step that keeps deep shades from going dull. Applied root to tip it deposits evenly, so the ends do not finish up darker than the roots the way repeat colouring often leaves them.

Application tips
Mix in the bottle, shake until the colour is uniform, then start at the parting. Start on dry hair a day past its last wash, with the allergy alert test already done on the leaflet's timing.
Roots first on virgin hair, or along the line where it has grown out on a retouch. Take the last stretch to comb it through the lengths. Rinse until the water clears, then work in the conditioner from the box.
Results
Depth is the point here. The brown sits close to natural rather than reading as dyed, with enough richness to hold up in daylight.
