The comb is the part that makes this work. Colour is dispensed through the teeth as you pull it through, so you are combing the grey down rather than painting sections and hoping the coverage came out even.
Touch of Gray is designed to reduce grey rather than remove it. Leave it on briefly and you get a light blend, leave it longer and it goes darker. That control is why it does not announce itself the way a full-coverage dye can, because there is no hard border between what was grey and what was not.

T-55 is the black shade. Good if you would rather keep some of the grey and just take the edge off it.
