Application tips
Dark brown goes darker on hair that is already dark, so a strand test from the underneath layer tells you more than the shade on the box. Patch test 48 hours before, every time, even if you have used it before.
Apply to dry, unwashed hair. Section into four, roots first, then pull the rest through. Cap on while it develops, rinse until the water runs clear, and skip conditioner on the first rinse.
Results
The depth builds rather than lands. A first application gives a rich brown with warmth underneath it; a second, a few weeks later, takes it darker and more even. Grey blends into the tone instead of standing out as a stripe.
Texture is the other half. The hair comes out smoother to the touch and glossier in daylight than an ammonia dye of the same depth would leave it.
