Colour fades from the inside out and from the outside in at the same time. Pigment washes out through a raised cuticle, and the way to slow that down is to keep the cuticle lying flat between washes.
That is what the Cantu Color Protecting Conditioner is for. It is a silicone-free rinse-out built for colour-treated hair, so it conditions and smooths without laying down a film that has to be stripped off later with a clarifying wash. Reds and coppers benefit most, since they are the fastest fading shades, but the same logic applies to blondes going brassy and dark tones going dull.
Treat it as the everyday conditioner in a colour routine rather than as a toning product. It will not deposit pigment. What it does is keep the hair conditioned enough that the colour you paid for stays looking like the colour you paid for, for longer.
400ml, used after every shampoo. Comb through, leave a couple of minutes, rinse with the coolest water you can stand.
Everything else in the routine matters as much as the conditioner does. Hot water opens the cuticle, so wash cooler. Sunlight bleaches pigment, so a hat helps in summer. Washing less often is the single biggest lever, and a conditioner like this makes stretching the gap between washes more comfortable.

Application tips
Cool water is the single most useful habit here. Wash warm, condition, then rinse cool so the cuticle closes flat and holds the pigment in.
Apply from the ears down, comb through, and give it two or three minutes. Use it after every shampoo, and swap in a deep mask once a week while the colour is still fresh.
Results
Colour holds its depth for longer between salon visits, and the fade is even rather than patchy at the ends.
Hair itself comes out smooth and easy to comb. With no silicone in the formula there is no coating to build up and no clarifying wash needed later, which matters on coloured hair because clarifying takes pigment with it.
