Rosemary earns its place cosmetically through scent and through conditioning. The scent is clean and herbal rather than sweet, which matters when a product will sit on your head for days between washes. The conditioning shows up as a scalp that feels comfortable rather than tight, and lengths that feel softer at the root.
There is a second benefit that gets less attention. A well-conditioned root is a flexible one, and flexible hair survives being parted, twisted and tied. Most of what people lose to breakage happens in the first few inches, where hair takes the most handling.
Apply directly to the scalp in sections, massage it in with the pads of your fingers, and leave it. Two or three times a week is plenty.

Application tips
A few drops per parting, no more. Work along rows about an inch apart so the oil reaches the skin rather than sitting on the hair.
Warm it between your palms first if the room is cold. Best applied on an evening rather than a morning, so it has hours to settle before you style. Wash it out at your next full wash.
Results
Two or three days of comfort per application is the realistic figure.
Dry, papery skin at the roots settles down and stops flaking under a parting comb. Hair at the base picks up a low natural sheen instead of a greasy one. Because the roots stay flexible, twisting and re-tying a style costs fewer strands than it did.
