Used that way it does three things at once. It saturates the strand while it is still open from the wash, so the moisture actually stays in. It gives enough slip to detangle without a fight, which is where most breakage happens. And it leaves hair soft and pliable, so whatever cream or gel comes next spreads evenly instead of dragging.
It is light for a leave-in, so curls keep their volume and coils do not end up coated. Frizz stays down and the curl pattern reads more clearly once dry.
The 8 oz bottle suits type 2 and type 3 hair. Denser textures may want a heavier leave-in layered over the top.

Application tips
Do not reach for a towel first. Hair should still be dripping when this goes on, section by section, roughly a palmful for shoulder length.
Comb it through with a wide-tooth comb, working from the ends up towards the roots and never the other way. Give it a minute to sink in before your styler goes on top. Denser textures can layer a butter over it.
Results
Wet hair turns pliable within seconds, and that softness holds as it dries down.
Frizz stays flat against the strand instead of lifting away from it. Fine and medium curls keep their bounce at the root rather than being pulled straight by the weight of a heavier layer. Ends feel less papery by the end of the week.
