Two products bought together because they are better used together. The Curly Hair Gel handles definition and light hold, the Mongongo Oil handles softness and shine, and cocktailed in your palm they give you a level of hold and gloss you can dial up or down.
The gel is deliberately light, so it defines without weighing curls down, and the finish is silky rather than crunchy or flaky. Adding a few drops of the oil softens the set further and puts a bit of hydration in on the way through. It works across textures, from loose waves through to tighter kinky-coily patterns, and the point is that your own texture stays visible underneath.
For medium-thickness, shoulder-length hair, split the hair into four sections and use a small coin-sized amount of gel per section, with two drops of Mongongo Oil mixed into the gel for extra slip and shine. Diffuse from there.
Buying them as a pair is mostly about the cocktailing. Gels and oils from different ranges do not always sit well together, and a gel that pills under an oil costs you a whole wash day. These two are built to be mixed in the palm before they go near the hair.
A sensible starting point if you have been buying gels and oils separately and never quite matched them.

Application tips
Two products, and the order changes the result. Gel first on soaking wet hair, raked through a section then smoothed down the length, so the cast forms cleanly as it dries.
The oil comes last, once the hair is completely dry and the cast has been scrunched out, a couple of drops rubbed between the palms and skimmed over the top. Oil before gel blocks the definition.
Results
Curls dry defined and stay that way, from loose waves through to tight coils. The gel is light enough that hair does not feel loaded or look wet once it has dried.
Scrunching the cast out leaves soft, separated clumps rather than sticky pieces. A few drops of the oil on top take the dryness off the surface and put back a low shine.
